01Who we are

This website is run by Metro Group of Industries, the parent group of Metro Plastic Industries Ltd and Metro Steel Mills Ltd ("Metro", "we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

02What we collect

When you send a quote request

Your name, company, email address, phone number and country, the division and products you are interested in, your notes (for example quantities and delivery location) and your preferred contact method. Only fill in what you are happy to share; name, email and phone are required so we can reply.

When you visit the site

• Technical data that every web server receives: your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages requested. Our hosting and security provider uses it to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
• Analytics data, only if you accept analytics cookies: pages visited, time on site, device and browser, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
• Anti-spam signals on the quote form: our anti-spam provider checks browser and device signals to confirm a person, not a bot, is sending the form.
• Map data on the Contact page: the embedded map is loaded from our mapping provider when you scroll to it, which receives your IP address and browser data.

We do not collect special categories of personal data, and we do not ask for payment details on this website.

03How we use it

• To reply to your enquiry, prepare a quote and follow up on it by your preferred contact method.
• To run, secure and improve the website, including understanding which pages are useful (analytics, with your consent).
• To keep records of our business communications and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for targeted advertising. We do not make decisions about you by automated means.

Legal bases

We process your quote request because you asked us to and it is a step towards a possible contract, and in our legitimate interest in answering business enquiries. We process technical and security data in our legitimate interest in running a safe website. We use analytics only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

04Who we share it with

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the website, under contracts that limit what they can do with it:

• Hosting and security provider: serves the website, protects it from attacks and runs the anti-spam check on the quote form.
• Email delivery provider: delivers your quote request to our sales inbox at sales@metro-tz.com.
• Analytics provider: only if you accept analytics cookies.
• Mapping provider: shows the head office map on the Contact page.

Within the group, your request is handled by the sales team of Metro Plastic Industries Ltd, Metro Steel Mills Ltd or both, depending on the products you ask about. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

05International transfers

Some of our service providers process data on servers outside Tanzania, including in the European Union and the United States. Where personal data leaves Tanzania, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards, such as contractual data protection commitments, as required by the Personal Data Protection Act 2022.

06Cookies

We use one essential setting to remember your cookie choice, and analytics cookies only if you accept them. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal and never load analytics. The full list is in our cookie policy, and you can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

07How long we keep it

• Quote requests are kept in our sales mailbox for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any resulting order, and then for up to 24 months after our last contact, unless the law requires longer. The website itself does not store form submissions.
• Delivery and security logs held by our providers are kept for short periods, typically days to weeks.
• Analytics data at user and event level is kept for 14 months in our analytics account; after that only aggregated, anonymous reports remain.

08Your rights

Under Tanzania's Personal Data Protection Act 2022, and where they apply to you the data protection laws of the EU, the UK, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, the DR Congo and Burundi, you can:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
• ask us to delete your data, or to stop or limit using it;
• object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
• withdraw consent (for analytics) at any time, without affecting earlier processing;
• where applicable, receive your data in a portable format.

To use these rights, email sales@metro-tz.com. We may need to confirm your identity, and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission of Tanzania, or to the data protection authority where you live.

09Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Quote requests travel encrypted from your browser to our sales inbox and are not stored in a website database. Access to the sales mailbox is limited to the staff who handle enquiries. No method of transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

10Children

This is a business website for buyers of construction and plumbing materials. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our website or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
