Deformed Bars.
TBS-certified bars, from melt to finished bar.
Metro Steel Mills manufactures deformed iron bars (in Swahili, nondo) in 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25 mm, certified by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards to TZS 142, the Tanzanian standard for steel bars.

Where it is used.
Every bar is produced in-house at our Dar es Salaam plant: recycled steel is melted in our own furnaces and rolled into finished reinforcement bar. This is the product that made Metro Steel the leading manufacturer of TBS-standard iron bars in Tanzania.

Questions buyers ask.
Straight answers on sizes, standards and supply. For a price or a dealer, call our sales team.
What is “nondo” in English?
“Nondo” is the Swahili word for deformed steel bars, also called reinforcement bars, rebar or iron bars: the ribbed steel bars used inside reinforced concrete.
What sizes of deformed bar does Metro make?
Six diameters: 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25 mm. Round bars are also available.
Are Metro’s bars TBS certified?
Yes. Metro’s deformed steel bars are certified by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards to TZS 142, the Tanzanian standard for steel bars.
Which bar size should I use?
Bar sizes are set by the structural engineer’s drawings for each foundation, column, beam and slab. Metro rolls all six common sizes, so a whole job can be supplied from one mill.
How can I make sure I am getting certified bars?
Buy from an established dealer and ask for TBS-certified bars made to TZS 142. Our sales team can confirm a dealer for you.
Where can I buy Metro deformed bars, and what do they cost?
Metro deformed bars are sold through Metro's dealer network across Tanzania and in DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia and Malawi. Prices follow the market and change often, so call our sales team on +255 713 433 572 or email sales@metro-tz.com for a current price and your nearest dealer.
